HEAR HERE :: Happy Pride to you; Pride Month well underway, World Pride taking place in Washington DC last weekend, with what’s going on in America - including the White House dismissing Pride altogether - not stopping brave queers from around the world from gathering in the US capitol to celebrate and to get political. Speakers evoked outrage, humour and upbeat messages, criticizing Trump for issuing executive orders limiting transgender rights, banning transgender people from serving in the armed forces and rescinding anti-discrimination policies for LGBTQ+ people.
One thing that got under my skin at the start of Pride Month was Defence Secretary former FOX weekend host Pete Hegseth stripping one of the US ships of it’s name: Harvey Milk, in honour of the beloved slain queer rights activist. But then I remembered the good news: 100 years from now, people will still remember the name Harvey Milk. No one will remember Pete Hegseth.
We’ve got a great show for you: singer songwriter Satya has dropped an empowering new single, just in time for Pride and your summertime listening. We’ll also meet transgender ventriloquist Zack Binder, who uses his talent to educate and inform on trans issues. And you know that idea that queers are good for the economy because we have extra cash to spend? Turns out queer businesses have a powerful effect on the Canadian economy too, more on that coming up too.
But up first, it’s super important if you’re going to tie one on at Pride - whatever that means to you - that you stay hydrated, especially under the hot summer sun. Fitness and wellness expert Victoria Nygrow is here to tell us her best way to do just that. Turns out hydration doesn’tt have to come from drinking gallons of bland blah water.
Enjoy the listen.
